Fore!
On this side of the pond, the Fed-Ex Cup is in full swing. The second event is the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts. On hand, are the PGA big guns such as the USA’s Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Kopeka. As for the Europeans, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, Justin Rose of England, Henrik Stenson of Sweden, and Jon Rahm of Spain will be providing fierce competition to claim the trophy at the end of the tournament and move on to the next match in this series.
Across the pond at The Silkeborg Ry Golf Club in Silkeborg, Denmark, the Made in Denmark tournament is the last chance for top notch players from the European Tour to battle for a spot on the prestigious Ryder Cup. Watch local Danes such as Lucas Bjerregaard, Søren Kjeldsen, and Thorbjørn Olesen fend off the competition to earn a spot on the Ryder Cup captained by fellow dane Thomas Bjørn.
Here are my picks for the tournaments:
European Fantasy:
Matthew Southgate (England)
Bradley Dredge (Wales)
Adrian Otaegui (Spain)
Thomas Pieters (Belgium) *****
Nick Cullen (Australia)
Richard Sterne (South Africa)
Last week, Thomas Pieters hung in there to earn some major points for a spot on the Ryder Cup. Although he didn’t win, he’s my double points pick again because this guy doesn’t want to be left out of the Ryder Cup come September, not after getting a taste of the competitive event two years ago in the USA.
PGA Fantasy:
Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)
Jason Day (Australia)
Justin Thomas (USA)
Adam Scott (Australia)
Benched:
Tony Finau (USA)
Patrick Cantaly (USA)
My picks are no-brainers because this is the PGA A-list of golfers. As for the bench, Tony and Patrick are ready to step in if one or two of my main picks falter, and I chose these two because they have proved they can more than survive cuts by moving on to the next event in the play-offs.
For the PGA One and Done, I chose two-time major champ for this season Brooks Koepka.
Golf Channel Fantasy:
Jamie Lovemark (USA)
Austin Cook (USA)
Jhonatten Vegas (Venezuela)
Dustin Johnson (USA)
Jordan Spieth (USA)
Gary Woodland (USA)
For these picks, as I mentioned in previous posts, the better the player, the more he costs, and I have a cap on how much money I’m allowed to spend for my picks. I made sure and nabbed Dustin and Jordan. As for my other picks, Jamie, Austin, Jhonatten, and Gary are solid players who make cuts. They’ve also advanced this far in the play-offs without sitting on the cut line.
For the Golf Channel One and Done, I chose Kyle Stanley, a solid player who tends to go about his business very quietly, and has a tendency to sneak up on the tournament leaderboard.
Well, let’s see how I do. Hopefully I made the right picks!
