Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Readers can jump from one author to another who share hooks from their current WIP (work in progress) or any previously published books.
For this week’s edition of Book Hooks, I give you a teaser from Renewed, the fourth and final book in The Matawapit Family series, a contemporary romance full of destructive family secrets. Don’t forget to check out the other book hooks from participating authors HERE.

When two former enemies fall in love, family secrets threaten to destroy their fragile union and everything they hold dear.
With their extreme ideas about traditional Ojibway life, the radical Kabatay clan have made enemies in their fight to rid the reserve of Western culture and its religion. Disowned by her family for daring to love the church deacon’s eldest son, Jude, Raven Kabatay longs to put an end to the feud started by her mother, brother, and sisters against the Matawapits…people she’s come to think of as her own since Jude changed her life.
Jude Matawapit suffered a humiliating divorce after his wife left him for another man, but with Raven, he’s created a beautiful, new sanctuary after losing his previous one, and his new haven is everything he’s ever wanted for himself and his children. Only two things could destroy his pristine bliss: the secret he holds close to his chest, and the vengeance Raven’s family wants to exact on the Matawapits. A secret and vengeance that could cost the unlikely lovers their hard-won, much longed for happily ever after.

Jude’s cell phone buzzed. “Gimme a sec.” He meandered to the kitchen table and read the text from Dad.
Roy called. He said Arlene’s calling out for me. I’m going to Thunder Bay. It’s best Raven comes, too. I don’t think Arlene’s going to last another day.
For a moment, Jude’s pulse stopped beating. Raven continued to build the fire at the woodstove. The kids and Twinkles were out in the yard. He texted back.
Book me a flight, too. I’m going with her.
Okay. We’ll handle everything. It’s best we stay at the hotel next to the hospital.
Perfect. Bye.
Jude clutched the phone and rubbed the back of its smooth edge against his forehead.
The glimmer in Raven’s eyes died. She dumped the wood into the stove. “Wh-what’s going on?”
“That was Dad….” Jude swallowed. He straightened tall and strode over to her, stuffing the phone into his pocket. “He said you’re accompanying him to Thunder Bay.”
“It’s Mom, isn’t it?” Raven asked shakily.
Jude nodded. He wouldn’t elaborate. Dad could find a way to explain that Mrs. Kabatay hadn’t asked for her daughter, but the man who was once her lover, instead.
“C’mon. We’d better get packed. Mom’s booking us on the next flight out. Hopefully, we can leave early tomorrow.”
“Will she make it through the night?” Raven’s eyes filled.
“I don’t know.” He drew her into his arms.
