The MFRW Steam hop is a monthly event hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Focused on authors who write spicy or erotic fiction, it’s a chance for readers who are looking for books with erotic content to jump from one author to another, using the list of links at the bottom of the MFRW Post.
For my post, I am sharing an excerpt between Shannon Nadjiwon and Séamus Daugherty from His Proposition, an interracial contemporary romance.
Her biggest dream’s offered on a platter, but the clincher is, she has to marry a perfect stranger.
When her employer offers the no-nonsense Shannon Nadjiwon the position of chauffeuring Séamus Daugherty, she jumps at the chance. To work for one of Toronto’s most powerful families means she can make her biggest dream of owning a fleet of limos come true, something her female relations tooling away at her Ojibway community want badly for her, and she won’t let them down.
His reckless need for speed cost Séamus Daugherty his license. If he doesn’t marry, as demanded by his overbearing father, he will lose not only his lucrative job with the family business—the only positive aspect in Séamus’ gilded cage life—but everything Daugherty.
The unpretentious and gorgeous Shannon will make the perfect bride, and Séamus is ready to strike a deal with her, one that will ensure he keeps everything he holds dear if she puts a wedding ring on her finger. However, they face three big obstacles: His family, her family, and a marriage neither truly wants, leaving both wondering if the sizzling sexual chemistry and cozy rapport they share is enough to create a happily ever after.

Hit the brakes. The thought kept screaming through Shannon’s brain. As much as her mind hollered the warning like a flashing amber up ahead on the road, her body refused to cooperate. Her lips had turned traitor and continued to taste Séamus’ mouth that was a blending of cider and a hint of mint from the candies they’d sampled after dinner.
She had her friends to think about, the pact they’d made, and their townhouse.
But gosh, his kiss was finer than the champagne they’d drunk this afternoon.
She had her dream to think about.
But geez, he’d offered to help her purchase a town car.
She was an independent woman doing what her mother and kokum had yearned for. How disappointed they’d be if she didn’t see it through.
But cripes, his mouth sliding over hers was a seamless fit. Perfect.
His arm snaked around her waist. He drew her in closer until her breasts melted against his chest—pectorals that weren’t overly muscular and gym-made, but firm and athletic from skiing, surfing, and golfing.
He even smelled wealthy and powerful, a fine scent of expensive cologne and a hint of a plushness from his tuxedo.
The deciding factor? Séamus wasn’t a snob who thought he was better than her, another horny client on the make, expecting her to be grateful for a taste of his dick.
His fingers brushed at her waist, gliding in a tiny movement back and forth. His touch was magical, and her skin responded with shivers and goosebumps. The soft puckers he offered became firmer, deeper.
When his tongue traced her closed lips, the warning bell rang again in her head. She had to stop him before one thing led to another. But darn, the temptation was so great.
Since the wine glass sat in her one hand, she settled her free palm on his chest for a gentle shove. Touching his crisp silk-like shirt and what hid beneath was pure electrifying excitement between her legs. What she didn’t want to throb with anticipation was pulsating, much to her vexation.
Of all the predicaments to find herself in.
“Séamus…” Where she found the strength to break the kiss, she had no clue.
“Hmm?” His eyes were closed. Not tight, either. Sleepily shut, as if he was in dreamland enjoying a very… erotic fantasy.
“I… I’m getting cold.” Lying was stupid. She was perfectly capable of dealing with a man honestly.
“My jacket isn’t helping?” His lips, only a mere kiss away, broadened into a grin. He ran his finger along her cheekbone. “Do you require something warmer?”

This is great. You’ve captured the building of passion and the way that can conflict with reason!

Normally I don’t like rich man/poor woman scenes. Too much power imbalance. But in this scene, it seems they’re both needy and eager. Trading power is so much more fun than wielding it all.
