Romancing Canada's Indigenous People

With the Ryder Cup Team wildcard picks made by Captain Thomas Bjorn on the morning of Wednesday, September fifth, qualifying for Team Europe is finished.

A big congrats to those who made the team on order of merit:  Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Justin Rose (England), Francesco Molinari (Italy), Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark), Tommy Fleetwood (England), Alex Noren (Sweden), Jon Rahm (Spain), and Tyrell Hatton (England).

As for the wildcards, Thomas Bjorn chose some solid veterans to round out a very rookie line-up:  Ian Poulter (England), Henrik Stenson (Sweden), Sergio Garcia (Spain), and Paul Casey (England).

So for the Omega European Masters taking place at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, the players are now trying to qualify or keep their qualification for the Race to Dubai.

On this side of the pond, the second of the last four tournaments for the prestigious Fed-Ex Cup is the BMW Championship, happening at the Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

Here are my fantasy picks for both tournaments:

Fantasy Europe

Ross Fisher (England)
Matthew Fitzpatrick (England)
Thomas Detry (Belgium)
Andrea Pavan (Italy)
Ryan Fox (Australia)
Erik Van Rooyen (South Africa) *****

I chose these six because all have been performing extremely well over the last few tournaments.

PGA Fantasy

Bryson DeChambeau (USA)
Tiger Woods (USA)
Brooks Koepka (USA)
Justin Rose (England)

Dustin Johnson (USA)
Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)

I benched the number one and number eight golfers in the world because they have not been performing up to par (pun intended!).  But I’m keeping them on the bench because they do make cuts and although they’ve been hitting the rough too many times, you never now if they’ll wake up.

As for my four picks, this is a no-brainer.  Bryon is leading in Fed-Ex cups points.  Tiger is always in the top ten now.  As for Brooks and Justin, you can always rely on them.

For the PGA One and Done, I chose Justin Thomas, another Mr. Reliable.

Golf Channel Fantasy

Jordan Spieth (USA)
Beau Hossler (USA)
Emiliano Grillo (Argentina)
Adam Hadwin (Canada)
Webb Simpson (USA)
Tony Finau (USA)

Again, no brainers here.  Jordan’s putter has woken up and he’s coming back into form.  As for the rest, they all have a chance at the top ten.

For the Golf Channel Fantasy One and Done, I went with Rafa Cabrera Bello.  It’s been awesome watching this man come into form.  I can recall him about four or five years ago struggling with his chipping, and saying to myself, “If he could nail his chipping, he could contend.”  And he surely is contending.

Let’s see how I do this weekend!
