Romancing Canada's Indigenous People

Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Readers can jump from one author to another who share hooks from their current WIP (work in progress) or any previously published books.

For this week’s edition of Book Hooks, I give you a teaser from my upcoming release, Sons of Sinners, a dark MC m/m romance. Don’t forget to check out the other book hooks from participating authors HERE.

One was built to be a weapon. The other was born to be his salvation.

Blurb: Reluctant biker prince Sloan is trapped in a brotherhood that would execute him for his secret trysts with men. Sick of wearing a mask, he is escaping to British Columbia, but his plans are dashed when he’s caught in the crosshairs of a predator—Ajax, the lethal War Chief whom Sloan secretly craves.

Ex-con Ajax wants out of the Ojibway street gang that raised him. With three bodies to his name, he is the Syndicate Skins’ most feared weapon and the reason his uncle tasks him with kidnapping the rival prince for a hostile takeover of Winnipeg’s North End. When Ajax abducts Sloan, he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to break the handsome biker. But the only man Ajax burns for proves to be a formidable force, capable of penetrating the War Chief’s stone-cold armour.

When the ransom is refused, Sloan’s survival depends on a desperate gamble, forcing the two adversaries to give in to the explosive tension building between them. But to secure their guaranteed happily-ever-after, Ajax must turn on the uncle who raised him, and Sloan must gut the father who betrayed him—or the future they are running for will be destroyed in a single night.

CONTENT WARNING: Sons of Sinners is an intense, high-stakes dark M/M romance. It contains graphic depictions of captivity, power imbalances, severe physical assaults, survival sex, and explicit on-page violence. This book also features racially charged dialogue and gritty, street-accurate slurs to reflect the raw animosity of the fictional gang war. These terms strictly belong to the world of the characters and do not represent the views of the author. Reader discretion is strongly advised.

Sloan slid the Glock from the parka’s breast pocket, a shiver of warning trailing down his spine. Footsteps came, but they weren’t the quick stride he’d heard in the past. These ones were slow, methodical, even cunning.

A shadow appeared beneath the door. A loud thump came from Sloan’s heart picking up speed. Sweat peppered his upper lip. Just as he was about to raise his gun, the door slowly opened.

Okay, all was clear.

Sloan slipped the piece back into his parka. He pushed on the door, asking, “What made you—?”

A big hand gathered into the collar of his shirt. He was yanked inside, his sight going cross from the gun planted between his eyes. The face wasn’t the banker’s.

Ajax!

For one erratic heartbeat, the illusion held. Sloan really believed Ajax was here waiting for him. But reality unfolded in Sloan’s gut. All his wasted energy, the months of maddening, sweating lust—spent on a ruthless, piece-of-shit street thug who’d been biding his time until he could put a bullet in Sloan’s skull.

“What’s this fucking game?” he demanded.

“I ask the questions.” Ajax threw Sloan against the door, and it banged shut.

The violent impact brought a deathly awakening, and Sloan’s parka dropped to the floor. This was real. Ajax wasn’t playing games.

Sloan’s suspicions about the Syndicate Skins were true.

He drew in a breath. The gun remained trained between his brows so he couldn’t reach for his piece hidden in his parka now on the floor. “You looking to start a war?”

Ajax’ black eyes resembled polished onyx—shiny and flat but expressionless. “Just following orders, Blondie.”

Blondie?

The insult was a slap across Sloan’s face. But he stamped down the anger demanding retribution. Now wasn’t the time to lose his cool. The longer he got Ajax to talk, the more Sloan could figure out what the street gang had in mind.

“Turn around.” The order was as dead as Ajax’ dark stare.

If Sloan turned, the back of his head would meet a bullet. He remained put.

Ajax cocked the gun.

Sloan whipped on his heel. Motherfucker. The bastard would’ve killed him. For that, if he survived this bullshit encounter, and damned rights he’d survive, he’d spend the rest of his life hunting down Ajax to finish the job the son of a bitch had started. The dumb prick should’ve killed Sloan when he’d had the chance, because there was no way Sloan was letting this cocksucker get away with this.
