Today, I have author Morgan Brice in the interview chair.  We’re celebrating her book releases (with two audio) for 2022.  Be sure to check out my review of No Surrender, book five in the Badlands series. And don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway.

****

I’ve had you in the interview chair a few times for your recent releases. I see you are doing an end-of-the-year tour with a collection of novels. So here we go.

1. First, why did you choose the title Sins of the Father?

Morgan:  It kept the cadence of ‘Kings of the Mountain’ (first book in the series) and the plot hinges on things done by and done to Dawson and Grady’s fathers.

2. For No Surrender, you have quite a lot of ghosts going on. Do you ever scare yourself with the numerous paranormal creatures you write about? And will readers be scared? I sure hope not. I’m reviewing this one! LOL.

Morgan:  Reading about legends and haunted places doesn’t scare me—good thing! (Very different from actually going somewhere haunted!) If people like stories with supernatural elements I don’t think they’ll be scared. It’s spooky, but not horrifying.

3. Again: Fox Hollow Zodiac is the second book in the series. Why did you feel there had to be a second novel? And what do you believe readers will think?

Morgan:  There will actually be six books in the Zodiac series (I already bought the covers) and six more in the Tarot series, and another six in a related shifter series. (Yep, bought those covers, too.) And a MMM series that’s related. (Bought the first cover.) It’s going to take a while to get them all written (hopefully I can do them faster than one a year! As for needing to happen, we met the six friends who will each get a book in Huntsman—now I have to make good on that!

4. The Devil You Know is a m/m supernatural romance adventure. Why touch on adventure for this one?

Morgan:  This is in the Witchbane series, which is the spookiest of my Morgan Brice series. (Someone described it as ‘Supernatural, but darker’.) So there’s more monster hunting and that sort of danger in this series, and in this book.

5. Blink is a supernatural suspense. How do supernatural and paranormal differ in your eyes?

Morgan:  For the most part, I think they’re the same. Some people tend to use ‘paranormal’ to refer to unusual things that probably have a natural cause but are not common (like being clairvoyant), while ‘supernatural’ might be due to magic, monsters, deities, etc.

6. Huntsman is an audiobook release. What do you love most about audiobooks, and why produce novels in audio versions?

Morgan:  I love that you can listen to an audiobook at times when you can’t read—like on a long car ride when you’re driving. Many people listen at work or when they’re doing chores. And a lot of readers find it calming to have someone read to them. They become big fans of different narrators as much as fans of the authors/series. I’m happy to bring tools to readers in whatever form lets them enjoy the stories!

7. Out of the novels you are promoting for this tour, who is your favourite couple, and why?

Morgan:  They’re all so different, I don’t really have a favorite. Although I’ll always be especially partial to Seth and Evan from the Witchbane stories, because that was my first Morgan Brice series.

8. Again, out of the novel you are promoting, which book was the hardest to write, and why?

Morgan:  Every book is impossible at the two-thirds point in the writing! I don’t know why that’s the sticking point, but it’s the pit of despair. And then it gets better. It happens with every book, every series, even with established characters.

9. And again, out of the novels you are promoting, which one was the easiest to write, and why?

Morgan:  I find it easier to come back to an established series where the worldbuilding and character introductions have already been done than to write a first book. When I come back to a sequel, it’s like meeting up with old friends. All the books from 2022 were sequels, so it was nice to get the gang together again!

10. Still sticking with all the novels, which character do you loathe the most, and why?

Morgan:  There’s a coven of dark witches in the Witchbane series who have caused a lot of trouble over the last century. They’re the baddest bad guys!

11. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Morgan:  I’m so thrilled to be able to share my stories with my awesome readers. Thanks for having me!

(also available at other platforms)

I read and reviewed the Huntsman, another book by the author, so when a chance to delve into the Badlands series came up, I was all for reviewing No Surrender.  I loved the blurb, and I adored the two hunks on the cover.

Okay, I’ll admit I scare easily, so I was a bit worried when I started reading, wondering what I got myself in for LOL.  Although it delves deep into the paranormal, I was able to sleep at night!  And I must say the author did a great job setting up the plot to tie in with the romance and all of those wedding plans.

Simon Kinkaid is a psychic medium.  I must say it was interesting to read about how he had his psychic visions and contacted the dead.  I really enjoyed this part of the novel.  I also liked how he helped other budding psychics in the community hone their skills.  Simon is a wonderful man who is always willing to help.

As for Vic D’Amato, he is a detective and when in need, calls on Simon for help to aid in a case.  And boy, does Vic need Simon’s help for this one.  A serial killer is about to go on trial, but a fanboy is determined to stop the trial at all costs.

I love a good mystery, and turning over the stones that led to the big finale was a great ride.  The author set a great stage of mystery and intrigue, along with a good helping of the occult.  Since I know nothing about the occult, the author did a great job weaving in the explanations without any coming off as exposition.  It was all part of the plot as Vic went on the hunt for the fanboy.

The romance was also wonderful, giving me a glimpse into Simon and Vic’s everyday life when they aren’t hunting down ghosts and other crazy beings.  I found the wedding planning and romance was a nice respite from the very intense case.  It lightened the mood somewhat so the novel didn’t get too heavy.

Another reviewer mentioned the Badlands series would make for a great TV show, and I agree.  The author did a great job creating the series, the main characters, and a strong plot with a wonderful romance.  Even the secondary characters stand out, but don’t overshadow the main stars.  I especially adored Michelle.  I hope to see more of her.

If you haven’t tried the author’s Badlands series, I highly recommend you give it a try, because she did a great job with No Surrender.  Do yourself a favour and get a copy.
