Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Readers have the chance to jump from one author to another who share hooks from their current WIP (work in progress) or any previously published book.
For this week’s edition of Book Hooks, I give you a teaser from Born for This, book one in the Maizemerized series, now 40% off at eXtasy Books.
She’s always been obsessed with her ancestors, and now he’s offering her a chance to live with them…forever.
Second-year university student Edie Whitecrow gobbles up each course on Indigenous studies. If only she could experience the lives of her Anishinaabe ancestors instead of reading about them. On her way to a Halloween party decked out as a historical Ojibway maiden, she spies a corn maze in a spot known to be barren.
A scarecrow figure beckons Edie to enter with the enticing offer of making her biggest wish come true. She jumps at the chance and finds herself in the past, face to face with the man who haunts her dreams—the handsome brave Thunder Bear. He claims he’s spent twelve years waiting for Gitche Manidoo to send her to him.
Life in the eighteenth century isn’t what Edie romanticized about, though. When her conscience is tested, she must choose between the modern day or the world of her descendants—where the man she was created for resides.

Edie couldn’t get over the plushness of the kiss. Thunder Bear’s soft, wet mouth was smothering her. He explored her lips with lush but gentle strokes.
For so long, apprehension had tapped at the back of her mind because she knew her time to choose was coming. She locked her arms around his strong shoulders and chose him.
His muscles tightened beneath her palms. She couldn’t resist caressing his round delts that were firmer and harder than baseballs. This was the very reason why she’d never gotten serious in high school or university. She’d been waiting for Thunder Bear to be the first to truly touch her.
Yes, she’d been kissed, but nothing like the teasing suckles being lavished on her. His tongue eased between her lips, and she welcomed the silky heat penetrating her mouth.
A kink was growing in her neck, so she shuffled in closer until their knees brushed. The electric heat his skin generated crackled along her thighs and shot through her veins. His natural essence was intoxicating, mixed with the lovely scent of the fire.
His tongue was wet and hot, sweetly tasting hers. She couldn’t get over the gentleness of such a strong man, or the succulent pleasure his licks were producing. Never was she so aware of the shivers rippling through her. To say waiting for the right man had been the best idea was a generous pat to her own back. Thank God she’d never listened to Mom or her friends.
Thunder Bear had said she’d been born for this. He was right. Sure, she’d kill for a glass of milk and a real shower, but small sacrifices were nothing compared to the new life she’d been granted.
She could have let him kiss her forever. His tongue was showering hers with deep, drawn-out circles and light licks. There was the sweetest hmm sound buzzing in her ears.
His fingers feathered her waist, setting off her pulse points to become thundering gallops close to bursting. His strokes remained firm yet tender. He didn’t move his hand anywhere else but simply explored her waist.
An ache was budding between Edie’s thighs, the familiar want ever since she’d first laid eyes on Thunder Bear. Her body was demanding he take her. A trickle of fear seeped down her spine. If she let him claim her and stay in her robe of furs, he would become her husband.
Thunder Bear broke the kiss.
Edie’s stomach dropped in disappointment.
He gazed into her eyes. His fingers touched her face. “You know what will happen?”
“I…” She wet her lips. “Y-yes.” She nodded.
“Do not be afraid.” Using soft strokes, he kept rubbing her face.
“I am not afraid of what is to happen, I am…I am unsure of what will happen afterward.”
“You will be my wife, that is what will happen afterward.” His declaration was quiet yet stern.
“I…I will never see my family again. Or my friends.”
“You have family and friends here. Gitche Manidoo made sure of this, did he not?”
“Y-yes, he did.”
“I will take good care of you, Fire Woman. I will never mistreat you or hurt you. This is my promise. You have my word.” Honesty clung to his statement. “You have seen nineteen summers. You are more than ready.”
“I-I missed you.”
“And I missed you, too.” The seriousness in his gaze liquified to tenderness. “I missed you very much. But we both have responsibilities. You know this. You are a brave and courageous woman. Do not let your fear interfere in what your destiny is.”
“I…I will not.” The shivers kept bumping along her spine.
“Then let me have you as my wife.” His request wasn’t a plea but a simple suggestion.
She didn’t believe he’d ever beg or plead with anyone but Gitche Manidoo.
Very interesting and what a dilemma she has.
