Title: Saving Noah
Series: Oakside Military Heroes, Book 1
Author: Kaci Rose
Genre: Contemporary Military Romance

Can a scarred heart learn to love again?

Noah
My unit was attacked, leaving every soldier with the option to fight our way out or die. I was one of the lucky few that made it—but not without battle scars. Half my body is scorched and blistered, the pain is unbearable. I can’t imagine anyone will want to look at me, much less be with me, after this… until I meet Lexi. She came to visit her brother and stayed when she realized I have no one. Now, all that gets me through the anguish of treatments and physical therapies is the chance to see her beautiful smile again.

Lexi
After fighting for their country, no soldier should have to suffer the painful healing alone. Yet that’s not what brings me back to Noah day after day. He’s helping me work through the grief of losing my husband. But the day of his release is fast approaching. Our feelings for each other are undeniable. Will what’s between us last outside the hospital walls? Or will the emotional and physical scars we both carry destroy our chance at a fresh start?

Note:  This is a Steamy, Small Town, Military Romance. No Cliffhangers.  This is Book 1 in the Oakside Military Heroes Series.  As always there is a satisfying Happy Ever After.  If you love steamy romances with insta love, hot love scenes, military men, and small towns, then this one is for you.

Lexi accompanies her sister-in-law to see her brother at a hospital in Germany where he lays after being injured in battle.  A widow who lost her husband while he was serving his country, Lexi doesn’t expect to meet Noah, a burn victim, who is in the bed beside her brother.

Noah is fighting for his life.  Alone after his fiancée dumped him, he has no one to give him the strength to recover, until Lexi takes a big interest in him.

The opening is a great step-up for a touching and heartfelt story of love as a healing power.

The hero and heroine are a duo one can easily root for.  Both are good people battling oppositions from outside forces.  Lexi is still recovering from the loss of her husband while he was in service, and Noah is attempting to regain his life after almost losing it.

The two complemented one another.  I liked how this was a slow-burn romance built on friendship that began to unravel into romantic feelings between the two.  Fireworks weren’t going off between them.  They built what they had on trust and care.  Both had great character arcs that took them from the bottom to the top.  The change in them was wonderfully written.  I especially liked how their goals connected them even further as a couple.

The cast of characters wasn’t overwhelming but added to Lexi and Noah’s story.

This book is a wonderful look into the aftermath of combat and the fight to survive.  The descriptions were vividly painted without becoming too heavy.  The dialogue and conversations between the duo were very realistic.

The author did a great job bringing to life Noah and Lexi’s story.

I did do a “hmm” at Noah’s choice of fiancée and why he became engaged, and also his lack of grieving for the loss of her.  I did feel this was skimmed over, because this would have built mistrust in him, especially after how much he’d already suffered.

Still, this is an enjoyable read and a book I’d easily recommend.  I wish I would have had time to review the whole series for the blog tour.  Do yourself a favour and purchase yourself a copy of Saving Noah.

Title: Saving Easton
Series: Oakside Military Heroes, Book 2
Author: Kaci Rose
Genre: Contemporary Military Romance

Can love free the heart of a former prisoner of war?

Easton
My time as a POW left emotional scars that cut far deeper than any physical ones. I can’t stand to be touched. I am plagued by horrid nightmares. I knew therapy was my only option, but I didn’t realize it was fate leading me there… until I saw Paisley. As the sister of my best friend, I’ve had a crush on her for years. If anything can crack through the darkness rooted within me, it’s the warmth of her beauty.

Paisley
I didn’t know Easton joined the military until the day he walked into Oakside where I work. With therapy dogs and a delicate touch, I’ve helped countless veterans. Never one this close to my heart. Easton isn’t the boy I once knew anymore. All he’s endured has made him retreat inside himself. Can I help him coax him back out into the light? Or will some part of him forever be a prisoner to his pain?
