Hustler, Funny, Loud, Genuine & a born Leader

Like most things in my life, being an author chose me. People would always laugh at the way I retold stories. I always enjoyed sharing the crazy things that I’ve seen or done in my life. For example, my nickname should have been lucky.

I’ve survived some harrowing situations like surviving a car flipping over after the driver fell asleep at the wheel. As I’ve gotten older that luck not only changed, it’s passed through to my kids. Being a father of two having my wife is a blessing and also what motivates me.

I wanted to create material that allows readers to escape for a few hours and maybe have some of their passions sparked by the written word. Not until I started working on Juice Box did that vision really come to fruition. I hadn’t really focused on a project; you know everything before that was never me committing to the creation of a project and seeing it all the way through.

Then as soon as it, my debut novel, dropped my wife purchased the first copy, then that next copy sold, then the writer hat came off and the hustler hat came right back on. I’m still trying to adjust to the writer’s part because I’m always trying to figure out the moving parts that take writers to the next level. From what I see it’s the hustle not so much the talent in all cases, but it’s like that in just about every industry. Every day I’m striving to become a better man, a better reader, a better King to lead my family in reaching its full potential.

I was born in Louisiana, raised in Georgia, and resettled back in Louisiana. Thanks to watching my mother’s hustle and how she loves her family, she helped shape the man I grew to be. My mother’s hustle never stopped. I watched her sacrifice and grind for me and my sister. Even when we were broke, we never knew it because of her sacrifices. She taught me how to parent and how to hustle, I salute her every day for the lessons. I LOVE gumbo. It’s my favorite food so I’m so happy we made the move back to Louisiana aka “the boot”. If I died tomorrow, I’m right where I want to be with my family chilling, growing, and manifesting the legacy I will leave my children. Well, add in a crew of scientists so they can try to find a cure to keep me around lol.

Genre: Urban Erotic Romance

Shaun Sheppard is equal parts hood-grown homeboy and corporate success. He dominates boardrooms by day and tears up the club by night, searching for the finest and juiciest women he can find. He’s locally famous for both his marketing tactics and his sexual escapades. Having coined the phrase juice box to describe the female anatomy, he considers himself to be a connoisseur of juice boxes far and wide. He has no intentions of slowing down his corporate climb or taming his sex drive.
Until he sees Essence.

From the moment Shaun lays eyes on Essence, he can’t get her off his mind. She dominates his dreams, invades his thoughts at work, and all other women pale in comparison to her. He gets hooked on her juice box before he ever speaks to her.

When he’s presented with a truly golden opportunity, Shaun thinks this is his time to shine and gets on his grind. But he’s soon met with twists and turns that he couldn’t even begin to fathom. His seemingly unquenchable thirst for the juice box comes back to haunt him and puts a strain on his budding love affair with Essence.

juicebox - excerpt

I stared into my phone for a while longer and looked up just in time to see Essence parking her car next to mine. I stood up, stretched, and approached her car as she applied her make up in her rear view mirror. By the time she looked up, I was already opening her door.

“Hey beautiful,” I greeted her. And as always, she stepped out looking gorgeous.

“Hey Mr. Shaun,” she said with a smile. Essence handed me her purse, pulled her maxi dress down, and twisted her belt to the front, before turning around, staring at me eye to eye. She smiled and opened her big brown eyes wide. “Am I straight Shaun?”
“You mean the line between them cheeks, YES LAWD!” I told her.

Essence smacked her teeth in a jokingly manner, twirled her hair, and walked off. I closed her car door and she hit her lock on her key fob. From the way she was swishing those hips while walking towards the door, I could tell Essence knew she was looking good and wanted me to watch. I rushed past her to hold the door open for her. This gave me a second chance to admire her ass bounce. Mesmerized by the way her little red dress hugged her waist, I enjoyed the show watching her every step as she crossed the room in a couple of strides. Her walk was just as sexy as she was. Just as she made it to the table I snapped out of the trance and moved to pull her chair out.

Essence’s hypnotizing scent opened the door for conversation, “What type of perfume is that you are wearing?” I asked with a smirk on my face.

“Gucci Bloom. Do you like how it smells?”

“Do I? It’s got that let me know when you are running low, so I can make sure you get some more type of smell to it. You know what? I’ma be right back. I’ma ahead over to the mall and get you some more right now.” I got up and played like I was walking off.

“Shaun you are so crazy! Sit down and stop it,” she said laughing.

When I sat back down, the waitress came by. “What are you guys drinking, today?” We started out with two waters with lemons on the side. Once the waitress came back to our table she asked, “What can I get you guys to eat?” We ordered twenty-four wings in four different flavors. My phone was going off so I started responding to a few text messages.

“What type of work do you do?” she asked me.

I put the phone on the table, “I am a senior marketing executive for a marketing firm.”

“Really? Wow that sounds like . . . like . . . ” Essence smiled big and asked shyly, “What is that?”

“Basically, I develop marketing strategies to help a company sell its business to the public. I’m paid to find ways to increase net earnings, and the dollar and the bottom line are what really matters. It’s cool. I mean I love what I do. I love the different challenges that can be presented with each day. My day today got me feeling like you were the other day though. I need me a few drinks.”

Essence rubbed my hand. “Let me buy you one. I mean you helped me out so much, buying me and my friends drinks the other night. That was sweet of you and if I didn’t tell you, thank you!”

“Wow, you just continue to blow my mind. Sexy and humble, I love it. I gotta decline though. As good as that drink sounds, right now I still have to go back to work you know.”

“What’s one drink going to hurt Shaun? You say that you could use one. I saw you throwing ‘em back that night, and one drink is not going to hurt you.”

“Is it always this hard with you? You sure can make it hard as hell to tell you no. Has anyone ever told you that?”

“Honestly, I hear it a lot, but I’m not sure how true it is. Look how you got me jumping through hoops just to buy you a drink.”

“Well I can’t speak for others, but it’s hard for me to say no. So, yes, you’re right Essence one drink won’t hurt I guess. I’ll take a patron and a….”

“Glass of Moscato. I pay attention sir,” She started laughing like she just told the funniest joke ever, but then her laugh turned to a face of stone.

juicebox - about the author

Daneal Brown Author Photo_300x400Daneal Brown has been creative all of his life, but he didn’t start focusing his creativity on writing until he began attending high school in Atlanta, GA. His writing started out as poetry, which later became raps. Being a huge rap music fan, Daneal tried his hands at many rap styles, but storytelling became his signature style. His love for storytelling intensified in college when he was a student at Grambling State University.

After graduating and entering the real world, Daneal got away from writing his tales, but his writing was revived after seeing a writing challenge on Facebook. He hopes that his writing takes people into a zone where they lose themselves and rekindle lost emotions. When asked about his writing style, he said it’s out the box, spontaneous, entertaining, and he doesn’t plan on sticking to one genre.   Daneal’s first book, Juice Box, is due out in August 2018.
