Fore!
The Fed-Ex Cup comes to an end at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia at the East Lake Golf Course. Thirty players who survived the last three cuts will slug it out for the prestigious Fed-Ex Cup Trophy and the Tour Championship Trophy.
Across the pond, the European Tour is heading for the Dom Pedro Victoria Course in Vilamoura, Algrave, Portugal. Stars in the field are two former Masters winners: Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Danny Willett of England.
In other news, USA Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk made his final selection of his four wildcard picks. The golfer who is joining Team USA in France is Tony Finau.
Team USA’s line-up is officially: Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Webb Simpson, who came in on order of merit, and the captain’s picks: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Tony Finau.
Here are my fantasy picks for the Portugal Masters and Fed-Ex Cup Tour Championship:
European Tour Fantasy:
Matthew Southgate (England)
Shane Lowry (Ireland)
Richie Ramsay (Scotland)
Thomas Detry (Belgium) *****
Justin Walters (South Africa)
Nick Cullen (Australia)
Thomas Detry keeps hanging in there. He’s going to get a win yet, so I made him my star player. Shane has been playing for the PGA this season, therefore I expect him to do well here because he’s gained a lot of experience.
PGA Fantasy:
Justin Thomas (USA)
Dustin Johnson (USA)
Rickie Fowler (USA)
Tony Finau (USA)
Benched:
Bryson DeChambeau (USA)
Paul Casey (England)
I benched Bryson, even though he’s at the top of the points list because he’s already won two tournaments, and winning takes a lot out of a fella. But he’s sitting there–just in case he surprises me. The rest are consistent players who I hope will earn me good points.
For the PGA One and Done I selected World No. 1 Justin Rose, who’s been playing some awesome golf, awesome enough to dethrone Dustin Johnson as the best golfer in the world.
Golf Channel Fantasy:
Kyle Stanley (USA)
Webb Simpson (USA)
Xander Schauffele (USA)
Tommy Fleetwood (England)
Bubba Watson (USA)
Brooks Koepka (USA)
All are consistent picks. My sleeper is Bubba Watson, because he’s a proven winner. If he’s good enough to have made the Ryder Cup, and good enough to be one of the final thirty players for the Fed-Ex Cup, he could win.
For the Golf Channel Fantasy One and Done is former Fed-Ex Cup Champion Billy Horschel. He’s been hanging around in the top ten. Although he might not win the cup, he could win the Tour Championship.
