Golfer

Fore!

Across the pond, the European Tour is in Prague, Czech Republic at the Albatross Golf Resort with the players battling for a spot on the Ryder Cup Team, and also fighting to earn enough points to compete in the prestigious Race to Dubai play-offs that begin on November 1st in Turkey.

Meanwhile, in the USA, the Fed-Ex Cup is off and running.  This week, one hundred and twenty-five golfers will slug it out at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.  Why is this event so important to these golfers?  Because twenty-five will be cut and unable to compete in the remaining three events for a chance at winning the Fed-Ex Cup.

Trust me, nobody wants to be sent packing.  These guys want to go on to compete in the third tournament.  Here are my picks for the fantasy games…

European Fantasy:

Matt Wallace (England)
Scott Jamieson (Scotland)
Mikko Korhonen (Finland)
Thomas Pieters (Belgium)  *****
Nacho Elvira (Spain)
Dean Burmester (South Africa)

My top pick is Thomas Pieters.  This guy played in the 2016 Ryder Cup in Minnesota as a rookie and captain’s pick.  He went on to set a new record for points earned by a rookie.  In order to secure a spot in France, he needs to do some hard work.  He also knows Jamie Donaldson sewed up a spot on Team Europe in the 2014 Ryder Cup by winning this tournament.

PGA Fantasy:

Luke List (USA)
Jordan Spieth (USA)
Patrick Cantaly (USA)
Jon Rahm (Spain)
Benched:
Beau Hossler (USA)
Justin Rose (England)

This was a tough call because I’m only allowed to pick a player three times.  So I had to do some scrambling to make sure I could fit the big guns into the play-offs, which is why I went with strong players such as Luke and Patrick for this pick, and kept the A-Team for the other fantasy games.  I still have two picks left for Jon, so he was a no-brainer for a pick because he is part of the A-Team, and the same for Jordan.

For the PGA One and Done I went with World #1 Dustin Johnson.

Golf Channel Fantasy:

Brooks Koepka (USA)
Harold Varner III (USA)
Justin Thomas (USA)
Harris English (USA)
Grayson Murray (USA)
Adam Scott (Australia)

Being given so much money to “buy” a player, and the better the player, the more he costs, I had to fiddle around so I could secure Brooks and Justin for my team, because these guys are red hot right now.  I mean HOT because Brooks won two majors this season, and Justin is always in the hunt.  Adam more than proved at the PGA Championship that he can compete.  Harris, Grayson, and Harold are solid players.  They may not have the games of the A-list players, but they are tough guys on the field.

For the Golf Channel Fantasy One and Done I chose Gary Woodland.  This Flordian will break out sooner or later with the way he keeps securing a top ten finish at events.

Okay, that’s it.  Time to enjoy some golf!
