Welcome to my fourteenth post for Muse Monday. It’s a chance for a character who inspires me to guest on the blog. Today we have Rosemary Kakeway, the free-spirited and indomitable heroine from She Talks to Eagles. Check out what Rosemary has to say.

It was supposed to be an adventurous trip to New Mexico. A chance to meet new people and experience the desert. When I packed, I was more excited than I’d ever been. Finally, I’d get to blow off the rez. Sure, I’d made trips to Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, but those cities never counted since they were within a four- and five-hour driving distance. But New Mexico? That was hours away. A full day and night of seeing the States, taking pictures for my scrapbook. Oooh, I’d have oodles of pictures after Mom and Dad had bought me a flashy camera. The Polaroid SX-70. It didn’t get anymore high-tech than the film being developed before my eyes.
I brought my sexiest outfits, my skimpiest shorts, and my jingle dress. I’d wow them at the powwow. Maybe I’d even meet a total hunk. You know. The one who can curl your straight hair with his devastating smile and sexy teeth straight from a Pearl Drops toothpaste commercial.
This was the adventure I craved, something that would bring me one step closer to my dream—working as a stewardess in London at Heathrow Airport. If I worked my butt off, I could even serve high end drinks to millionaires on the Concorde.
I wasn’t going to be another chickie stuck on the rez. I’d be somebody.
But then he showed up…telling me a scary story about my future. I didn’t want to believe him. I couldn’t believe him. I was not dead. No way. I was very much alive!

He’s shocked that the beautiful girl in the picture is alive…
Maybe the stories of the notorious Route 66 are true. Road trips don’t result in encountering ghosts, but they do for Collin Bird. When he spies a beautiful girl hitchhiking during a thunderstorm, he can’t believe his eyes. It’s Rosemary, a young woman from his Ojibway community who went missing over forty years ago.
Rosemary Kakeway is dead. Her only hope to reach the spirit world is Collin. Before departing to the place of her ancestors, she seeks vengeance against her killers, and Collin is the man to help her do just that.
A ride with Rosemary through pea-soup fog brings Collin to 1977, where he meets a very much alive nineteen-year-old Rosemary. The bold and wild girl is nothing like he imagined her to be as she introduces him to a time he embraces. Knowing they are meant to be together, neither wishes to say goodbye, but that’s up to Rosemary’s spirit in the twenty-first century to decide.
