Today, I have author Amber Daulton in the interview chair. We’re discussing her latest release, Lost in His Spiderwebs, book two in the Lozano Cartel series, a dark romance.

1.  Readers have an idea of the writer you, but what about the everyday you? Can you share about your personal life?

Amber:  My everyday like is pretty boring. If I’m not hunkering down in my writing cave, creating my next masterpiece, I’m reading some books, pulling weeds from my garden, hiking, binge watching my favorite TV shows, or spending time with my cats and hubby. Usually, I have a furball or two with me while I’m writing, so they’re always around.

2.  Can you share why you chose to write in this particular genre?

Amber:  I just finished writing the romantic suspense series, “Arresting Onyx,” and wanted to do a spinoff. But the characters in my mind were darker and more troubled than I what I wrote previously, so I had to switch up genres to stay true to the characters.

3.  Can you share what inspired you to create this book?

Amber:  Ruben was a minor character in book 1, “Dark Hearts Aflame,” and as soon as I met him (ahem–wrote him), I knew he had a story to tell. The ideas just kept coming to me, and I had to discard a few for better pacing and word count. As for my inspiration, I’m not sure. I just needed to write this story.

4.  Let’s talk about the main character(s). What do you love most about them?

Amber:  Ruben is the boss. Literally. He’s the leader of a ruthless cartel and doesn’t shy away from blood, death, and destruction. The world is a cruel place, but he’s found his place in it. What I love most about him is his unwavering need to protect those in his charge.

Drina doesn’t want anything to do with Ruben’s world, but when she’s thrust into it, she has to swim or she’ll sink. She’s strong and determined to survive the obstacles ahead, and boy, she has a lot of stuff to overcome. Her tenacity is what I love most about her.

5.  We all have imperfections.  Can you share one imperfection about the main character(s) that gets on your last nerve?

Amber:  Both Ruben and Drina are stubborn to a fault. They argue often, and sometimes, I just want to yell at them to play nice.

6.  Without giving away any spoilers, what was your favourite scene to write and why?

Amber:  Ruben takes Drina with him to a dinner business meeting with some of his tentative allies. This is a tension-filled scene, and ultimately, ends with blood. I love it because this is when Drina accepts her fate and becomes the cartel queen that she was always meant to be, and who Ruben desperately wants at his side. Her transformation from a scared (but not broken) girl to a kick-ass boss lady carries the plot and keeps the reader engaged in her plight.

7.  If a reader asked you why they should read your book, what would you tell them?

Amber:  “Lost in His Spiderwebs” is an angsty, emotional roller coaster ride with flawed, well-rounded characters who are doing their best to survive in a damaged world. Love knows no bounds, even in the darkness.

8.  What can we expect from you in the future?

Amber:  “Lost in His Spiderwebs” will be released on October 14, 2025. The next book, “Corrupting His Wife,” is currently in draft form, and the “Lozano Cartel” series will continue with several standalone novels. Rubén pulled her close and locked his arms around her.

“Ooh!” Surprise widened her eyes. She flattened her hands on his chest.

The minty air leaving her succulent mouth puffed warm across his face. She moistened her bottom lip with her pretty pink tongue as though begging him to kiss her. Who was he to refuse? He seized her lips and backed her against the wall. Fireworks shot off in his brain. She struggled for freedom, an erotic push and pull that drove his lust higher.

“Rubén, wait,” she forced out past his ravaging lips.

He groaned, wanting her to fight. At least a little. He craved the challenge of bringing her to heel. Anger simmered in his veins—anger at himself, the situation, the way she made him feel. He drew back just enough to stare into her eyes. A mix of fear and something else sparked to life in the inky pools. Desire, maybe. He kissed her again and ground his erection against her belly.

A soft, lusty whimper escaped her. She gripped his shirt and melted like a good little girl, her resistance crumbling faster than the dry earth in a summer rainstorm.

Triumph flared in his veins. He snaked his tongue past Drina’s lips and tasted a heady combination of mint and sensuous woman. Groaning, he clasped her tighter and tangled his hand in her silky, strawberry-scented hair. He angled his head, deepening the kiss, and cupped her ass.

Drina yelped and ripped her mouth free. “Wait.”

“Shh.” He pressed fast little kisses along her neckline.

“Rubén, please. No.” She gripped his shoulders and tried to push him back.

He kissed his way north. Once he nipped her bottom lip and she rewarded him with a breathy moan, he reluctantly released her and stepped back.

She touched her mouth with trembling fingers. Tears welled in her eyes.

His temper burned. She could at least let him touch her. It wasn’t like he was going to keep all the orgasms to himself. His cock throbbed against his zipper, demanding he cast aside the few morals he had. He rearranged himself and stomped away to jerk open the door.

Calvillo stood at attention.

“Take Drina to the kitchen. She needs to eat. Then give her the tour and return her to her room,” he told the man. Once she hurried out like hellhounds were after her, Rubén slammed the door shut. If he didn’t become reacquainted with Drina in the most biblical way soon, he would have a date with his blasted hand.

The devil only knew if he would survive it.
