I enjoy MC romance, and the blurb intrigued me, so I was all in for reading and reviewing this novel by the author. As stated in the blurb, Cupid has his reasons for avoiding love, and firecracker Lyric is looking for a way out of the town she found herself in after being dumped by her boyfriend.
The setup at the beginning of the novel is great. It’s a chance meeting, and the author shows the readers why Lyric is a tough cookie. And she’s even tough enough to confront the guy who turns her knees to Jello after he blows off her assistance.
This novel has it all: romance, brotherhood, family, and suspense.
The chemistry between Cupid and Lyric is off the charts. They want each other bad, but do they want each other enough to commit? Cupid is a protective man, but can the independent Lyric handle a man looking out for her when she’s spent her life looking out for herself?
There are loads of questions that the author answers the longer you read. There is also a surprise ending that I thought I saw coming. Still, that didn’t happen until I reached the middle of the novel.
When an author uses two POVs and then throws in three more late in the novel, I do become annoyed, but this time I wasn’t. I rather enjoyed having the additional POVs to add more suspense to the novel.
The secondary characters are a great group of people, especially the club prez, Jackal. Maybe he’ll get his own story with a lovely older lady to heal his broken heart. And there are stories waiting for the other members. As great as they are, they never overshadowed the main couple or the plot. They were present to aid Cupid and Lyric.
I do hope this is a start to a series. The author did a great job building a world belonging to the Black Aces.
If you enjoy MC romance, do yourself a favour and get a copy. The writing is as raw as the characters, and the dialogue can go from serious to funny in seconds.
