Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Readers can jump from one author to another who share hooks from their current WIP (work in progress) or any previously published books.
For this week’s edition of Book Hooks, I give you a teaser from His Proposition, a marriage-of-convenience, contemporary, interracial romance. Be sure to check out other participating author posts here.

Her biggest dream’s offered on a platter, but the clincher is, she has to marry a perfect stranger.
When her employer offers the no-nonsense Shannon Nadjiwon the position of chauffeuring Séamus Daugherty, she jumps at the chance. To work for one of Toronto’s most powerful families means she can make her biggest dream of owning a fleet of limos come true, something her female relations tooling away at her Ojibway community want badly for her, and she won’t let them down.
His reckless need for speed cost Séamus Daugherty his license. If he doesn’t marry, as demanded by his overbearing father, he will lose not only his lucrative job with the family business—the only positive aspect in Séamus’ gilded cage life—but everything Daugherty.
The unpretentious and gorgeous Shannon will make the perfect bride, and Séamus is ready to strike a deal with her, one that will ensure he keeps everything he holds dear if she puts a wedding ring on her finger. However, they face three big obstacles: His family, her family, and a marriage neither truly wants, leaving both wondering if the sizzling sexual chemistry and cozy rapport they share is enough to create a happily ever after.

Séamus refused to let his guard down. If anyone dared to insult his wife, he was putting aside gentlemanly manners and lacing up the gloves. He should be proud to be on the verge of giving up everything to come to Shannon’s aid, but the fact was, Ronnie and Pashney had known Shannon their whole lives, and what they’d said continued to crowd his head.
If he’d married a woman from his peerage, she’d be moving from circle to circle like a gracious host, but Shannon stayed by Mom’s side, sipping her glass of champagne, nodding with the same frozen smile plastered on her face to the Tillsdale family. She didn’t wish to be here anymore than he did.
But setting her free with a business so she could reach her dreams was a knife being plunged into his chest. They’d known each other a whole month, yet he couldn’t picture his world without her. It was as if life had started once she’d slid into the driver’s seat of the town car, as if she was meant to drive him to where he truly belonged.
Was she guiding him to his fated destination? Showing him who he truly was?
Séamus pressed his lips together.
“Old boy, well done. Well done.” Ethan patted him on the back. “I must say she is a beauty. A real beauty. Am I ever going to get my moment to officially meet your wife?”
“Of course.” Séamus nodded. “Once she breaks from her conversation with the Tillsdales, I’ll introduce you.”
Ethan winked. “You did great.” His leering stare moved up and down Shannon’s form like she was a side of prime rib being purchased.
Séamus gave his friend a polite elbow. “That’s my wife you’re talking about.”
“Understood. Understood. Come. Let’s get my date. I don’t think you’ve met the lovely Elizabeth Kennedy yet. She’s a charming lady. Right this way.” Ethan swaggered off.
Séamus had no choice but to follow. He threaded his way through the crowd of designer dresses and tailored black suits until Ethan stopped at a small group of beautiful women holding champagne flutes and laughing.
In the past, Séamus would’ve found himself intrigued, even interested in taking one to bed, but not anymore. They were a group of stunning redheads, brunettes, and blondes. No doubt the ladies were highly educated with great jobs… until they married.
Father’s threat resurfaced. How would he feel about Shannon’s new business venture and working full-time? Well, that was a moot question. He’d be furious, an affront to a Daugherty, insinuating he was unable to financially care for his wife.
Right then, Séamus could’ve kicked his great-great-great grandfather for starting this madness.

Love this teaser and looking forward to reading more.

Seamus is falling for his beautiful wife of convenience. He’s right about his ancestor being a jerk for insisting men must be married to inherit. What an antiqued idea! But great for the tension in this book!
