Romancing Canada's Indigenous People

Book Hooks is a weekly meme hosted by Marketing for Romance Writers as part of the MFRW Authors Blog. Readers can jump from one author to another who share hooks from their current WIP (work in progress) or any previously published books.

For this week’s edition of Book Hooks, I give you a teaser from Knight Moves, book three in the When We Were Young series, a m/m contemporary, young adult romance. You can check out other book hooks by participating authors here.

Although they’re torn apart, they still hold a piece of each other’s heart.

Blurb: After receiving his grade twelve diploma and marking his eighteenth birthday, René Oshawee cannot fight the temptation seventeen-year-old high school junior Billy Redsky blatantly offers now that what they share has become taboo.

When their secret romance is blown into the open, Billy’s foster parents send René to Toronto to complete the last of his schooling under the supervision of a family friend, leaving Billy behind at their Ojibway community.

Now Billy and René must make the biggest decision of their lives—fight for the true love they know they’ll never find with anyone else or go their separate ways.

Trent’s words were hot on René’s ear. His thick lips trailed René’s neck, steaming his skin. The prickles of light stubble grazed his flesh. He shivered. This was a nineteen-year-old experienced guy, not an inexperienced, seventeen-year-old virgin. He gulped for air. This was no mistake. Trent had brought them back here for a reason.

A thick fog seemed to penetrate René’s thoughts. No matter how he tried to reach for them to clear his head, he couldn’t. Trent’s big hand was on René’s thigh, just below his knee. The silky sensation from the light massage left him shaking.

Trent kept offering light pecks. He was slowly creeping his way to René’s chin, and shifting higher.

René held his breath. Trent’s thick lips claimed his mouth. René stiffened. The thought finally pushed through the fog. A loud thought of move back. He did. Trent shifted to his knees. He was slightly above René now, his mouth still determined to claim his lips.

Billy…

But Billy had moved on. He was dating Carla, taking her for dinner with his mom. Building a new life as René had asked.

His mouth was being smothered with hot kisses. Trent’s hand had returned to massaging René’s thigh. Goosepimples popped from somewhere deep in him and pushed through his flesh. His heart was pounding in his throat. He couldn’t catch his breath. He’d lost the last bit of oxygen when Trent’s fingertips had begun trailing up his thigh. Never was he so aware of the hairs on his leg. The light brushing Trent lavished on him was a melodic song, coaxing René to lie back in plush velvet and let the heady sensations consume him.

He belonged in Toronto—a place where he could live a normal life in a neighborhood that welcomed gay people.

When Trent’s tongue eased between René’s lips, his whole body screamed with excitement. His mouth was being explored, feasted on. He licked back. The hint of beer and saliva was ambrosia to his taste buds. Trent groaned. His exploration became that of hunger, his tongue playing with René’s in the most teasing manner.

René was guided up on his knees. He was drawn against Trent’s hard pecs. Their crotches melted together. Meeting Trent’s hard dick almost bursting from his shorts gripped René with fear and exhilaration. Their kisses were no longer lavishing licks but deep probes of each other’s mouths.

Trent’s hand was on the small of René’s back and inched lower. A roar filled René’s ears. He was in deep water, treading for his life, and ready to cease the fight and let the refreshing liquid claim him in its deathly grip. If he sank, there was no turning back. He could never face Billy again.

No matter if they were kaput, he wasn’t ready to sink. His heart hollered at him to fight the lust pumping through his veins. All he had to do was grab the life preserver.
