Welcome to my second post for Muse Monday. It’s a chance for a character who inspires me to guest on the blog. Today we have Reed Dumont, the sexy, ambitious news reporter from Her Competition. Check out what Reed has to say.

Hello, everyone. I’m Reed Dumont, a reporter for the Indigenous Peoples Television Network in Winnipeg, Manitoba. My author asked if I’d share a little bit about myself. Well, for one, I am Métis. For those who don’t know what Métis is: we are a mixed-race people originating on the Red River in what is now Winnipeg. My bloodline is part Ojibway and part French. The Métis are one of the three aboriginal groups in Canada, the others being First Nations and Inuit.
So there. That’s a bit of my background. The promotion means everything to me. I want the best career possible. Someday, I hope to sit in the chair of our head honcho and oversee the news department of IPTN. Some might say that’s my poor Métis upbringing goading me. I disagree. I’ve always been ambitious and I don’t like to lose. Some might say I have an A-type personality. I prefer to say I set a goal and don’t allow anyone to get in the way of what I wish to achieve. First place is important to me. Nobody remembers you when you come in second.
But there’s a problem: for the promotion, I’m up against Celeste Fisher. She’s my cubicle neighbour and a good reporter. Is she as ambitious as I am? Yes. Everyone thinks we’re two of a kind, but I beg to differ. We’ve worked together for five years. She came on board after I became a part of IPTN. Sure, I noticed her gorgeous legs, sexy long black hair, and beautiful face, but there’s more to her than attractiveness. She’s savvy. A smart lady who keeps her personal life close to her chest. If she wasn’t my competitor, I might have even asked her out, but she’s the kind of woman who doesn’t believe in mixing her personal life with her professional life. Plus, she’s my adversary, because Celeste also wants the head honcho’s job. I know it. I feel it. She wants what I want.
So yeah, the promotion is a chance to move up the ladder, another rung on the corporate ladder to become the head of the news department.
The gloves are off. I won’t let her take what I see as mine.

Two sexy work rivals each want the prestigious promotion, but neither expects to want each other.
Driven and determined, Celeste Fisher won’t let anything stop her from anchoring the nightly news. She’s sacrificed a personal life, a love life, and left her Ojibway community to make it in the city. And if that means stomping all over her too handsome and too competitive rival to nail the position, so be it.
Casual dating and one-night stands are all Reed Dumont can spare while building what he covets most—his career. He’s not about to lose out to Celeste, no matter if he can’t keep his eyes off her sexy legs and admiring her just as sexy brain, because sitting in the broadcasting chair is another step up the ladder to thumb his nose at his poor Métis upbringing.
A crisis in a First Nations community sends the adversaries out on the road to cover the story. Snowed in at the hotel, rivals become humans, unable to deny their true private desires. But upon returning to the city, the new lovers face the biggest hurdle that could cost them their budding relationship when one gets the promotion and the other is left holding… frustration. Now they must decide what is worth fighting for: love or career.
