Although I’ve never been on a cruise, I enjoy reading about them, and even watching them, such as Mighty Cruise Ships.  So when this came up for review, I said yes.  I mean, who doesn’t love The Love Boat?

As stated in the blurb, Chrissy and Deacon are at odds.  Trust is the major factor in this relationship.  Neither trusts the other a tiny bit.  Yeah, these are big stakes because no relationship can survive without trust.  Will these two sink or swim?

Honestly, I adored these two as characters.  Chrissy is fun, vivacious, friendly, and sometimes over-the-top.  But she’s the kind of friend you’d want to cruise with.  Even though she comes from money, she believes in earning her way through life.

Then there is Deacon.  He doesn’t come from money.  He assesses situations and doesn’t believe in jumping in the water with both feet.  This kind of guy needs to wade in and see if he likes the temperature.

As a couple?  Well, they do say opposites attract.  But as I read, I wondered if these two were way too polar opposites. As for the trust issue, they were always thinking the worst of each other.

There’s also an ex-husband lurking about on the cruise, and an ex-girlfriend who sneaks on board, in dire need of Deacon’s help.  And all kinds of fun people the two encounter on their vacation.

Did I feel Deacon and Chrissy worked as a couple?  Unfortunately, with so many trust issues on both sides, I feel they needed their own alone time to work through this problem before deciding to rekindle their love, much less think of marriage.  It made me wonder if they could truly have a HEA.

Still, the author is an excellent writer.  I think many who enjoy rom-coms will enjoy this book.  The author excels at writing funny, but as for me, I thought the book was a nice read, but didn’t love it, probably because I could not love Chrissy and Deacon as a couple, but only as individuals.  Still, others might feel different.  So go ahead and give it a try.  As I said, the author’s an excellent writer and is great with romantic comedy.
