Romancing Canada's Indigenous People

Today, I am reviewing Liza Malloy’s latest release, Mafiosa Princess: Loyalty, a contemporary romance, and the sixth book in the Mafiosa Princess series.

Title: Mafiosa Princess – Loyalty
Series: Mafiosa Princess, book six
Author: Liza Malloy
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Mafia
Publication Date: June 5, 2023
Length: 314 pages
Publisher: Self-Published

Families change but loyalty is forever.

Blurb: Fresh out of prison, Luca tries a novel way of running the family business. Both the Marino and Conti families are expanding, but with the FBI poking around, Giada’s scared to trust anyone. She pushes the limits of her role as the mafiosa princess and welcomes the power of her new position. And once Adrian accepts that the world isn’t so black and white, he embraces a new type of oath…and learns the true benefits of loyalty.

They’re so close to having it all, but not every princess story has a fairytale ending.

This is the sixth book in the series, and each one keeps upping the stakes for Giada.  There is a solid theme in Loyalty:  the implications of crime.  Newly married couple Giada and Luca will learn the hard way.  Is it worth it?

I must say the characters keep growing, whether in a good or bad direction.  Take Adrian, who is now immersed in the Conti family.  Will he suffer from the route he’s taken?

The novel also concentrates on Giada and Luca’s relationship, from their second marriage to their honeymoon, bringing them closer together.  But what he does for a living, and what she chooses to overlook, is lurking in the background, ready to tear apart what they want to protect most—their love.  Are trips to Italy, wealth, designer labels, and power worth it?  I don’t know.  Maybe we’ll learn about it in the next novel.

As for Loyalty, we also learn more about the secondary characters, especially Alessio, Luca’s BFF.  We are also introduced to Adrian’s sister.  And the character Julia, Angelo’s girlfriend, gets more page time, and not for a good reason.  I won’t say what that’s about because I’ll spoil it, but I feel like the way the plot is rolling out, we are nearing a big climactic ending.  Especially with the FBI involved.  Or it is the FBI?  It’s hard to say because everything isn’t what it quite seems sometimes.

Yes, we are standing at the cliff’s edge, and the next novel will give those answers, especially the way this one ended on a cliffhanger (no pun intended).

This series is well plotted as each book keeps pushing us toward the end.  And how it ends is something I can’t foresee because the author has done a great job of keeping me wondering.

As always, the writing is excellent.  The dialogue belongs to each character.  And the setting puts you in the moment without being heavy in the description.  It’s so easy to route for Giada, willing her to make the right choice.  Do yourself a favour and read this series.
