Today, I have author Colette Davison in the interview chair.  We’re talking about her latest series release The Alphabet of Desire, a m/m contemporary romance.  Don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway.

1. Hi, Colette. First off, readers have an idea of the writer you, but what about the everyday you? Can you share about your personal life?

Colette:  First, thanks for having me over for a chat. I’m a stay-at-home mum to two. My daughter is twelve, and my son is six. Most of my time revolves around my kids, but when I’m not doing that or writing, I enjoy playing Final Fantasy XIV and watching TV. My daughter and I have had fun watching the Great British Sewing Bee. I loved Wandavision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but I haven’t started Loki yet.

2. I’m quite familiar with your work since I’ve read and reviewed a couple of your books. What made you decide to write m/m romance?

Colette:  After my little one was born, I suffered from post-natal depression for far too long (long story). I lost all interest in the things I used to enjoy doing/reading. By chance, I picked up one of the first Heart 2 Heart anthologies. It was my first taste of m/m romance and I loved it. Those stories were the first in months that captured my interest and made me excited about something. I’ve been writing stories since I learnt how to write, so it was a natural progression from reading mm romance to wanting to write it.

3. This is a series review tour for The Alphabet of Desire. Can you tell me what inspired you to create this series?

Colette:  The covers! They were a set of pre-made covers that I fell in love with and had to have. I knew I wanted to write something very steamy, to match the covers. When I found out it was the same cover model on all three, I decided to write a series about triplets, with each book focusing on one of the brothers.

4. The first book is A is for Aftercare. Let’s talk about the main characters of the novel. What do you like most about Archie and what makes you want to shake him?

Colette:  Archie is super organised, which I’m not, so I’m a little jealous of him! I love the way he can turn Hamish to mush with just one word. I’m not sure there’s anything he does that would make me want to shake him. Is that cheating?

5. The same for Hamish. What do you like most about him and what makes you want to shake him?

Colette:  I like how caring Hamish is, especially when it comes to giving Archie aftercare. I’d quite like to shake the grumpiness out of him! Thankfully, Archie helps to mellow him out.

6. Let’s move on to B is for Beg. Why did you choose to have three starring characters instead of two? And why did you choose the professions of a photographer, a rope artist, and a model?

Colette:  Originally, there were only going to be two main characters, Blake and Calvin. However, I wanted to include shibari in it (I last wrote about shibari in A Dance For You and it was only one scene). I toyed with the idea of letting Calvin do shibari and take the photos as well but ended up favouring the idea of adding a third character. I love writing mmm romance, so it wasn’t much of a leap!

7. Out of Blake, Gabe, and Calvin, who is your favourite and why?

Colette:  Blake, hands down. He’s such a sweetheart. He sees the world through very different eyes to everyone else and I adore that about him. I also love that he’s always there for his brothers and niece.

8. C is for Comfort is the third and final book. Why did you choose a May/December pairing?

Colette:  All the stories are age-gap romances. It’s one of my favourite tropes to write about. I love how people at different stages of their lives can find common ground and fall in love.

9. What do you think will surprise readers the most about Corey and Spence?

Colette:  Probably how different their relationship is compared to the relationships in the other two books. The kink that works for them is much more relaxed.

10. Out of the three books, which one was your personal favourite to write and why?

Colette:  This is a hard question to answer because I didn’t write book 1, then book 2, then book 3. I wrote them all at the same time, in chronological order. However, overall I’d say B is for Beg is my favourite of the trilogy. See my previous response about Blake being a sweetheart! Having said that, I had a lot of fun writing the banter between Spence and his sister in C is for Comfort.

11. If a reader asked you why they should read The Alphabet of Desire series, what would you tell them?

Colette:  I’d say you should read The Alphabet of Desire series if you enjoy kinky, high heat, low angst love stories.

12. Out of the three books, which main character is tops in your heart, and why?

Colette:  I’m pretty sure you’ve already guessed the answer to this! My absolute favourite main character is Blake.

13. You have an extensive backlist. If a reader is new to your work, which novel would you recommend they start with, and why?

Colette:  This I always such a hard question, because my answer always starts with ‘It depends on what you enjoy.’ If you like high angst, read my Heaven and Hell Club series (starting with Broken). You’ll need lots and lots of tissues. If you like forbidden romance, A Dance For Two is a good starting point, as it’s a stepbrother romance. If you like Daddy kink, A Boy Made of Sunshine or Dear Daddy, Please Hold Us would be my recommendations. If you like paranormal, Beyond the Surface is a good one to pick up, or Run Free, if you enjoy mpreg.

14. What can we expect from you in the future? Care to share about your current WIP?

Colette:  I’ve got a summer novel coming out which is part of a multi-author series. I can’t say much more than that I’m afraid!

15. What do you enjoy most about writing?

Colette:  Creating characters that talk to me. Also being part of an amazing community of writers and readers.

16. What do you enjoy least about writing?

Colette:  Getting started on a new WIP. It can be very hard to get going until the voices of the characters become clear to me.

16. I enjoy doing random questions, so humour me:

  • What’s your favourite movie?
My favourite movie tends to change depending upon my move. I’m currently on a superhero kick, so probably any of the Marvel movies.
  • What book is currently in your e-reader?
The Outcast Chronicles by Crista Crown and Harper B. Cole.
  • Who’s your favourite musical group?
Again, this is changeable, and I don’t tend to listen to every song on an album, let alone every song an artist/group has released. The band I’ve liked for the longest without wavering in my affection is Queen.
  • What song puts a smile on your face?
At the moment? Let Me Be by Escape the Fate.

17. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Colette:  Thanks for letting me hang out here for a while and the fun questions.

A famous author, a new job, and a party with a difference. Are these the makings of a perfect romance?

Archie
Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to end up working for my #1 favourite author. Nor did I expect him to love being called ‘Sir’. An invite to an adult party changes everything. Will Hamish order me to my knees or throw me out?

Hamish
The moment I first set eyes on Archie Morris, he becomes my secret muse.  Words I’ve been struggling to write pour out of me. He’s my PA and twenty-three years my junior, none of that matters when he shows up at my private party, ready to play. One night leads to so much more. Will Archie see beyond our differences to what I’m offering him—my heart?

Note:  A is for Aftercare is the story of two men falling in love, while they explore their desires together, which include blindfolds, sensory play, and lots of cuddles. It’s the first of three steamy, low angst novels, which follow each of the ABC triplets as they find love. You can read Blake and Corey’s stories in B is for Beg and C is for Comfort.

“You’re struggling to write?” he asks.

He picks up a glass of water and drinks from it. Captivated, I admire the way his full lips curve around the rim.

“Aye.”

“It’s the book that’s due in a month?”

“Aye.” I groan. “I’ll manage it.”

“How much have you written?”

I shrug. “Not enough. I’m just not feeling the words. I’m sick of Orion. I’d put a bullet through his head if my publisher let me.” I have no clue why I’m telling him any of this.

“If it helps, I really like Orion.”

I snort. “I’m paying you to be my PA, not kiss my arse.” Not that I have any reason to disbelieve his love of my character. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be averse to his lips being pressed against that part of my body—or anywhere else for that matter. I stuff some of the avocado toast into my mouth. It tastes a bit too good.

“I’m not.” The blush across his cheeks deepens to scarlet. “I’m being honest. I know he’s a bit surly, but he’s got a kind heart, really.”

I huff. “He’s a crotchety arsehole.”

Archie laughs. The sound reverberates through my body, almost making me want to laugh along with him. Part of the reason I hate Orion is that he’s too much like me.

“But I’m stuck with him for this book and another one. At least.”

“At least?”

“My contract runs out after that, but knowing my publisher, I’m sure they’ll try to sweet talk me into signing up to write another three books about the grumpy fucker.”

Archie smothers another laugh behind his hand.

“What?” I demand.

“You don’t strike me as the kind of man who does anything he doesn’t want to.”

I narrow my eyes. What else does he think he’s figured out about me?

“I’m not, but this is different.”

Archie tilts his head. “How?”

I open and close my mouth a couple of times, which probably makes me look like a fish drowning in air. “My publisher calls the shots,” I say eventually. Self-publishing under a pen name gives me the creative freedom I crave. Not that I’m going to mention that to my sexy PA.

“Surely they’ll understand if you tell them you’ve run out of steam? Especially if you pitch them a fantastic new idea.”

I shake my head.

“I’ve read all your books, sir. You’ve written so many amazing characters. I’m sure you could come up with a concept that would blow Orion King out of the water.”

I stare at the food on my plate.

“If you could write anything, what would it be?”

Aside from hot, passionate, if unrealistic stories of men falling in love? “I don’t know.”

“You should think about it,” Archie says as if it’s as easy as calling lightning from the sky. “But right now, you need to find a way to fall back in love with Orion enough to finish this book and write another.”

“I know,” I grumble.

“Is there anything I can do to help the words flow?” Archie asks.

I jerk my head back. “What?”

That’s not even remotely part of his job description. Then again, it’s only halfway through his first day, and he’s already made more of a positive impact on me than any of his predecessors.

“Can I help?”

Be Lee Lawson’s muse. Lie naked on my bed while I write about how glorious you are.

Interesting excerpt. And I’m amused that the covers are what gave you the ideas to write the series. Usually the cover is added way after the book is done!
