Today, I have author Tiffany Carby in the interview chair. We’re talking about her latest release Bennett’s Got Beats, book one in the Twelve Drummers Drumming series, a contemporary romance. Don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway.
1. What is something unique/quirky about you?
Tiffany: I have always had more than one job. I can’t slow down and as soon as I try to, I end up with something else to do.
2. What are some of your pet peeves?
Tiffany: I hate plastic pencils. Not like the mechanical ones. Like the ones pretending to be wooden pencils, but are actually plastic and bendy frauds in disguise!
3. Where were you born/grew up at?
Tiffany: I was born in Louisville and have lived in Kentucky my whole life!
4. How do you find time to write as a parent?
Tiffany: I am a fantastic multi-tasker and often grab a few extra minutes when I find them and write on my phone!
5. When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Tiffany: In the fifth grade, my first “book” was about an alien named Orangepeachrumple. It’s the first and one of the only “paranormal” books I’ve ever written and/or will write!
6. Do you have a favorite movie?
Tiffany: A Few Good Men
7. Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Tiffany: My Griffin Gas Company Series could be made into a Hallmark series!
8. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
Tiffany: My spirit animal is an otter. I am a mama, and a wife and I mother and friend others easily.
9. What inspired you to write this book?
Tiffany: Bennett’s Got Beats started out as a short holiday story about “Twelve Drummers Drumming.” I later decided I wanted to give each drummer their own story and asked several of my favorite author pals to join in and help me make it into a series.
10. What can we expect from you in the future?
Tiffany: A new dark romance that comes out in March as apart of the Possessed by Passion boxset. I introduce my character, the butcher, and have a sequel already in the works!
11. Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?
Tiffany: My series books (Griffin Gas Company and Mint Condition) have so many side characters and stories that go along with them. The fun of reading these is seeing familiar faces.
12. Tell us about your main characters–what makes them tick?
Tiffany: Bennett has a old soul. After the “Tweleve Drummers Drumming” competition, he has some life lessons and really grows up over the course of the book.
13. Convince us why your book is a must read.
Tiffany: Bennett’s Got Beats is a story about love lost and how the characters deal with this. It’s got some emotion and teared me up as I wrote it. I hope that emotion is passed on to readers as well.
14. Have you written any other books that are not published?
Tiffany: I have a lot of things “in the wings” that are waiting for their time…
15. If your book was a candle, what scent would it be?
Tiffany: Musky, cedarwood and bourbon.
16. Is there a writer whose brain you’d love to pick for advice? Who would they be and why?
Tiffany: I’d love to go back to the days of Jane Austen and have a good long afternoon tea with her.
17. How long have you been writing?
Tiffany: I officially published three years ago but have been scribbling since high school.
18. What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
Tiffany: In my first book, She’s a Tiger Lily, I extensively researched what to do for a jellyfish sting because I wanted to get that right in the book. And now, if I am in the presence of anyone who has a jellyfish sting, I know exactly what to do!
19. Do you read, and if so, what is your favorite genre?
Tiffany: I mostly read contemporary romance.
20. Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
Tiffany: I have several going at a time, so if I get stuck, I can move on to another manuscript and break through the block.
21. If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?
Tiffany: Pride and Prejudice or Little Women.
22. Pen, typewriter, or computer?
Tiffany: Phone and computer
23. Is there any advice you’d give to new authors?
Tiffany: There’s a lot more to it than writing the book. Do your research and be ready to commit.
24. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Tiffany: Start publishing sooner. Don’t be scared. Just do it. Find your tribe in your 20s and run with it.
25. Do you believe in writer’s block?
Yes, but I’m pretty successful if I switch subjects for a bit, but keep writing, that I can usually go back and push through.
Title: Bennett’s Got Beats
Series: Twelve Drummers Drumming Book 1

Blurb: Twelve Drummers Drumming, brought a dozen of the best percussionists together in Spring City, Kentucky. The Christmastime competition hosted musicians from all walks of life and all over the world. Each drummer wanted to win the illustrious prizes, but also prove who rocks the best beats.
Bennett Murphy entered Twelve Drummers Drumming on a dare by his stepfather. He expected to gain experience, learn from the best. What came from it, however, was a ticket to the finals and the chance for something great. The competition gave Bennett more than bragging rights…his future changed forever.
Note: This book is the first in the Twelve Drummers Drumming Series. All 12 books are related but can be read as a standalone.
“I brought a change of clothes if you don’t mind me coming in?” Always a polite one he was. She smiled and shook her head at him. They got inside and cleaned up a bit before heading out to dinner. Fiona wondered why he hadn’t tried anything with her, even after she wore the skimpy bikini, but she remembered he always had been a gentleman.
Author Tiffany Carby is a Kentucky native skilled in the art of storytelling. A journalist, columnist, and blogger who works in communications, she has a knack for narrative that keeps her story flowing.
Not all of her storytelling skills came from the classroom. Being born in Louisville and spending time in central and southeastern areas of the commonwealth, Carby developed a sharp ear for dialogue and an appreciation for the tales spun by friends and family from the South and Appalachia. As a Southerner, yes, she says “y’all,” drinks sweet tea, and shares a love of college basketball with most of her fellow residents of the Bluegrass state.
Writing wasn’t just a goal; it was a destiny for Carby. She wrote her first book while in the fifth grade—a story about an alien with a one-of-a-kind name, Orangepeachrumple. Though it didn’t circulate farther than her parents, she was hooked. Though publishing many non-fiction works over the years, She’s a Tiger Lily was the debut of her fiction work and beginning of her Company of Griffins series. Since then she has added another growing series called Mint Condition.
Carby resides near Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband, curly-headed moppet of a daughter, and two cats (only one of whom actually likes her).
