Having read and reviewed Ms. Carmichael’s Sons of the Alpha series, I must say I was anticipating digging into her new series Black Sky Dragons about dragon shifters since one lone dragon did make an appearance at the end of Hunter.

First off, it was great to see the Arcana Hunters making a return. Now do they play a big roll in the plot? Are they behind everything? You’ll have to read to find out!

The story begins with a bang in the prologue. I will admit, I am not a person for prologues. I always groan when I see the dreaded prologue, but Ms. Carmichael pulls this off. She keeps the pacing fast and leaves me with questions. No filler. No oodles of backstory. Just a great set-up for what’s to come. Nicely done!

The main characters are Crystal “Cryss” Logan and Derek Reaves. As stated in the blurb, Cryss arrives under the guise of a reporter wanting the scoop, but she has a hidden agenda that you’ll have to read the book to find out what it is. Derek also has his secrets he’s carrying.

I loved the secrecy because the author kept surprising me every step of the way. I did figure out one character’s true intentions, but the author fooled me, but I won’t say how she fooled me LOL. She did a great job keeping this story far from predictable.

Cryss and Derek have great chemistry, even when they’re bickering. And it was great to see a new world devoted to dragons and their powers and purpose. The writing, as always, is top-notch. The plotting is tight. The pacing is never too fast or too slow. And the setting gives a reader enough detail to open their minds to the scenery.

Ms. Addison excels at writing action/adventure romance. I recommend you give her new series a try.
